Heat-Mediated Optical Manipulation

Zhihan Chen et al.

Summary: Progress in optical manipulation has led to significant advancements in various fields. Heat-mediated optical manipulation techniques exploit tailored optothermo-matter interactions and mass transport dynamics to control matter of different compositions, shapes, and sizes. In addition to conventional trapping, these techniques enable distinctive manipulation modes using simple and low-power optics, such as optothermal pulling, nudging, and rotating.

Tunable Chiral Optics in All-Solid-Phase Reconfigurable Dielectric Nanostructures

Jingang Li et al.

Summary: A study has reported reconfigurable chiral nanostructures with silicon nanoparticles and nanowires, allowing for tailored configurations and chiroptical responses. The optical chirality arises from the coupling between optical resonances of the silicon nanoparticle and nanowire, enabling label-free enantiodiscrimination of biomolecules in single structures. This research provides insights into high-index material design and new strategies for adaptive devices in photonic and electronic applications.

Fully Steerable Symmetric Thermoplasmonic Microswimmers

Martin Fraenzl et al.

Summary: The study presents a new type of symmetric thermoplasmonic microswimmer propelled by laser-induced self-thermophoresis. The propulsion direction is externally imprinted by the heating laser position, allowing enhanced control over the particles dynamics. Experimental and simulation results have confirmed the unique motion characteristics of this microswimmer.

Plasmon-Enhanced, Self-Traced Nanomotors on the Surface of Silicon

Jianhua Yang et al.

Summary: Light-driven nanomotors have potential applications but face challenges in moving at solid-liquid interfaces. By utilizing the plasmon resonance of gold nanocrystals, nanomotors moving at the silicon-aqueous solution interface have been developed, offering a self-traced system and a method for nanoscale silicon pattern fabrication.
