Optimizing SERS performance through aggregation of gold nanorods in Langmuir-Blodgett films

Beata Tim et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles with high anisotropy exhibit large electromagnetic field enhancements at the single-particle level. Surprisingly, nanorods show superior hot spot accumulation at surface coverages above 60%, resulting in higher efficiency for SERS. This study highlights the importance of further research on the arrangement of metallic nanoparticles in monolayers, considering their size, shape, and surface ligands.

Orientation-Dependent Soft Plasmonics of Gold Nanobipyramid Plasmene Nanosheets

Runfang Fu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a partial ligand-stripping strategy to fabricate elastomer-supported gold nanobipyramid plasmene nanosheets, which exhibit complex orientation-dependent plasmonic responses to external strains. Plasmonic spectra of approximately 45 degrees oriented samples are shown to be most susceptible to strain at acute polarized angles.

Experimental and Theoretical Studies on Sustainable Synthesis of Gold Sol Displaying Dichroic Effect

Anshuman Jakhmola et al.

Summary: Gold nanoparticles can exhibit unique optical properties, such as the dichroic effect, due to their shape and mixtures of multiple shapes. A simple room temperature one-pot synthesis method using trisodium citrate as a reducing agent was demonstrated to produce gold sol with a dichroic effect. The color of the gold sol under transmitted light can be easily changed by minor adjustments in the reaction mixture, resulting in various shades of red, pink, cobalt blue, violet, magenta, and purple.

Plasmonic Au Nanooctahedrons Enhance Light Harvesting and Photocarrier Extraction in Perovskite Solar Cell

Fangying Juan et al.

Summary: Improving the light-harvesting capacity and carrier extraction in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is crucial for enhancing their photovoltaic performance. By introducing specially shaped gold nanoparticles with a broad LSPR peak, the efficiency of PSCs was increased from 16.95% to 19.05%, with a high short-circuit current density of 23.63 mA/cm(2). This study demonstrates the potential of utilizing plasmon excitation and light localization for high-efficiency photovoltaics.

Lycurgus cup: the nature of dichroism in a replica glass having similar composition

Andrey Drozdov et al.

Summary: The dichroic nature of Lycurgus cup glass, exhibited at the British Museum, has intrigued researchers. Replica glasses with similar optical properties and composition have been prepared through secondary heat treatment. The microstructure analysis revealed phase separation, with color attributed to metal nanoparticles, Fe2+ and Fe3+ absorption, and Rayleigh scattering.

Active strain engineering of soft plasmene nanosheets by thermoresponsive hydrogels

Runfang Fu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates omnidirectional strain engineering of soft plasmene nanosheets using thermoresponsive hydrogels and temperature programming. This method allows for switching the properties of nanosheets between tensile and compressive strain conditions, enabling significant spectral shift and reversibly switchable surface enhanced Raman scattering enhancements.
