Defect-mediated crystal growth from deeply undercooled melts

Zhenzhen Yan et al.

Summary: The study established a strong correlation between the density of defected atom pairs at the crystal-liquid interface and the activation energy for crystal growth, revealing that the orientations of interstitial pairs at the interface play a significant role in determining the local structure, energy, and crystal growth kinetics.

Fast and Reliable Ag-Sn Transient Liquid Phase Bonding by Combining Rapid Heating with Low-Power Ultrasound

Bastian Rheingans et al.

Summary: The use of fast heating and low-power ultrasonic pulses for accelerated Ag-Sn TLP bonding reduces processing time and avoids defects. Rapid heating significantly shortens processing time and yields high shear strength, while the introduction of ultrasonic pulses enhances Ag3Sn formation and eliminates gas entrapment, resulting in improved shear strength.

Deposited Mono-component Cu Metallic Glass: A Molecular Dynamics Study

Yang Yu

Summary: In this study, the simulation of the physical vapor deposition process of Cu on amorphous silica substrate and the liquid quenching of Cu from 2000 K to 50 K were compared to analyze the formation of copper glasses. The copper glass obtained by PVD process exhibited higher densities and lower potential energies when compared to its melt-quenched counterpart.

Building a Better Li-Garnet Solid Electrolyte/Metallic Li Interface with Antimony

Romain Dubey et al.

Summary: The study finds that using Sb as an interface layer helps to improve the wettability of Li on LLZO, reducing the interfacial resistance. Experimental results show that both Li/Sb-coated LLZO/Li cells and LLZO/V2O5 full cells exhibit good electrochemical performance without external pressure.
