Binary Au-Cu Reaction Sites Decorated ZnO for Selective Methane Oxidation to C1 Oxygenates with Nearly 100% Selectivity at Room Temperature

Lei Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that using ZnO catalyst with highly dispersed dual Au and Cu species enables efficient and selective conversion of methane to methanol and one-carbon oxygenates at ambient temperature, achieving a high apparent quantum yield of 14.1%. The synergy between Cu and Au promotes O2 activation and methane transformation, highlighting the importance of co-modification with suitable dual cocatalysts for enhancing both activity and selectivity in the process.

Iron sites on defective BiOBr nanosheets: Tailoring the molecular oxygen activation for enhanced photocatalytic organic synthesis

Xinhui Ye et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of iron sites immobilized on defective BiOBr nanosheets as an efficient and selective photocatalyst for the activation of O2 to O1(2), achieving high conversion rates and selectivity in various organic oxidation reactions. The Fe3+ species anchored by oxygen vacancies facilitate charge separation and migration, promote effective adsorption of O2, and boost the quantum yield of excited triplet state, leading to enhanced photocatalytic performance. This work highlights the important role of metal sites anchored on semiconductors in regulating charge/energy transfer during heterogeneous photocatalysis and provides a new approach for designing high-performance photocatalysts.

Aerobic oxidation of methane to formaldehyde mediated by crystal-O over gold modified tungsten trioxide via photocatalysis

Shilei Wei et al.

Summary: A direct photocatalytic conversion of methane to formaldehyde over gold modified cuboid-shaped tungsten trioxide with exposed crystal-O facets has been reported, achieving high productivity and selectivity of formaldehyde under room temperature conditions. The activation of C-H bonds in methane by high spin state crystal-O ions, combined with the extraction of photoexcited electrons by metallic gold, results in efficient formation of formaldehyde. Isotopic tests confirm the origin of formaldehyde from the combination of methane and crystal-O on the exposed facets.
