Controllable dry synthesis of binder-free nanostructured platinum electrocatalysts supported on multi-walled carbon nanotubes and their performance in the oxygen reduction reaction

Elmira Pajootan et al.

Summary: Different platinum nanostructures were synthesized through pulsed laser ablation under varying background gas pressures and laser pulse energies, leading to binder-free Pt/MWCNT/SS structures with high electrocatalytic performance. The Pt nanoparticles exhibited different sizes and morphologies depending on the processing conditions, resulting in enhanced oxygen reduction reaction activity compared to commercial Pt/C thin films.

Two-Step Dry Synthesis of Binderless 3D Low Pt-Loading Electrocatalysts for Direct Alkaline Methanol Fuel Cell Anodes

Elmira Pajootan et al.

Summary: 3D porous electrocatalysts with low platinum loading were synthesized using gas-phase pulsed laser ablation, showing higher methanol oxidation current and lower loss of active sites compared to commercial Pt/C. Increasing the electrolyte temperature significantly improved the efficiency of the electrocatalysts.

Summary: Electrochemical capacitors (EC) utilize pseudocapacitive transition metal materials such as RuO2 and VN, showing high capacitance and conductivity. By growing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as a support material on stainless-steel 316L mesh and depositing RuNx thin coatings, high capacitance electrodes are successfully achieved.
