Loose nanofiltration membrane custom-tailored for resource recovery

Shiwei Guo et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the development and applications of the emerging loose nanofiltration (LNF) membrane in resource recovery from biomass and wastewater. LNF membranes, with higher selectivity and lower operating pressure, are mainly prepared through phase inversion and interfacial polymerization, and are applied for the separation of saccharides, polyphenols, pigments, dyes, and salts to minimize environmental pollution.

Ozone compatibility with polymer nanofiltration membranes

Sara Ouali et al.

Summary: In this study, the resistance of three commercial polymer nanofiltration membranes to ozone was investigated, revealing a decrease in pure water permeability for NP10 membrane and a dramatic increase for thin-film composite polyamide membranes. The polyethersulfone matrix showed good resistance to ozone, while the polyvinylpyrrolidone additive was substantially oxidized. The active layers of the NF90 and NF270 membranes were severely damaged after ozonation, leading to a sharp increase in permeability.

New insights into effect of alkaline cleaning on fouling behavior of polyamide nanofiltration membrane for wastewater treatment

Jiachen Huang et al.

Summary: Membrane fouling in nanofiltration treatment can be effectively removed by alkaline cleaning, but the pore swelling induced by alkaline cleaning may reduce cleaning efficiency and lead to more severe fouling. The addition of anionic surfactant in the cleaning solution can improve hydrophilicity of the membrane, eliminate pore swelling effect, and enhance antifouling performance, maintaining low irreversible fouling and high permeability recovery in continuous fouling/cleaning cycles.
