Waste heat from a biomass fueled gas turbine for power generation via an ORC or compressor inlet cooling via an absorption refrigeration cycle: A thermoeconomic comparison

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: This study introduced a novel biomass fueled externally fired gas turbine system which utilizes waste heat for power generation via organic Rankine cycle or for inlet cooling of gas compressor via an absorption cooling cycle. Comprehensive analysis and performance comparison revealed that waste heat utilization for compressor inlet cooling is superior to power generation, with inlet cooling having 11.2% higher exergy efficiency and 12.3% lower electricity cost than the system combined with organic Rankine cycle at multi-objective optimal points.

Absorption Refrigeration Systems Based on Ammonia as Refrigerant Using Different Absorbents: Review and Applications

Alvaro A. S. Lima et al.

Summary: The interest in absorption refrigeration systems using ammonia and absorbents is driven by the concept of energy polygeneration and the advantages of reducing energy demand. Despite limited literature on absorption chillers, promising areas of research include gas cycles, using solar energy as an input source, and exploring alternatives to enhance system performance. The future trend suggests a rise in absorption systems due to increasing electricity costs and environmental concerns related to synthetic refrigerants.

On the consideration of different dead states in the exergy assessment of a solar-assisted combined cooling, heat and power system

Eduardo J. C. Cavalcanti et al.

Summary: This study focuses on a solar-assisted trigeneration system for residential consumer center, considering different dead state temperatures in the exergy assessment. It found that the COP of the absorption system increases with the temperature of the heat source, and there is a slight decrease in the exergy efficiency of the engine and solar system with the increase of dead state temperature. The analysis of dead state temperatures is useful for exergoeconomic and exergoenvironmental analyses.
