Summary: The study reveals a lack of integration among individual contributions in sustainable tourism research, while showing signs of maturation in subdomains. There is a noticeable shift towards empirical applications and a broad 'pragmatic turn' in the field, with an emphasis on stakeholder contributions related to industry and community. Recognizing the need for higher standards of methodological and theoretical engagement, the study also highlights the importance of engagement with the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a universally embraced framework for addressing challenges in sustainable tourism and external threats like climate change.
