Association of GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphisms with COVID-19 susceptibility and its outcome

Mohammad Abbas et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphism in COVID-19 susceptibility and outcomes. The frequency of GSTM1(-/-), GSTT1(-/-), and GSTM1(-/-)/GSTT1(-/-) was higher in severe COVID-19 patients, but no significant association was observed. Patients with the GSTT1(-/-) genotype showed higher mortality, with death being 2.28-fold higher in this group according to the Cox hazard model.

Summary: This study found that the Rh- phenotype significantly increased the risk of COVID-19, while the A(-) blood group also greatly increased the risk, with a significant interaction between ABO and Rh.
