Multistable mechanical metamaterials with highly tunable strength and energy absorption performance

Summary: A novel multistable mechanical metamaterial with highly tunable strength and energy absorption performance has been designed. The mechanical properties of the unit cell are described by a theoretical model. Experimental and simulation methods demonstrate that the mechanical properties of the presented metamaterial can be tuned in a wide range.

Chiral and non-centrosymmetric effects on the nonlinear wave propagation characteristics of architectured cellular materials

Summary: This work investigates the impact of chirality and non-centrosymmetry on the nonlinear wave propagation characteristics of periodic architectured media. The results show that chiral architectures are more affected by inner kinematic nonlinearities compared to achiral lattice designs. Non-centrosymmetric inner designs also modify the wave propagation attributes of both chiral and achiral lattice patterns, with different frequency ranges affected depending on the lattice type.

Out-of-plane wave propagation in two-dimensional micro-lattices

Summary: This study investigates the size-dependent out-of-plane wave propagation of periodic micro-lattices with different topologies using the finite element method and Bloch's theorem. The results show that size-dependency significantly influences the propagation, attenuation, and directionality of waves in small-scale micro-lattices. However, as the structure dimensions increase, the impact of size-dependency diminishes.
