Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) is the most common neoplasm in neonates, with four types classified based on anatomical extent. Type IV, the least common, is confined to the pelvic area. We present a case of a one-year-old girl with acute urinary retention due to bladder displacement by Type IV SCT.
Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) is the most common neoplasm occurring in neonatal age group. It is classified in to 4 types depending on its anatomical extent. Type IV is the least common type, confined to intrapelvic position without any visible component outside. Due to its hidden location it offers diagnostic challenge and presents late with its mass effects on rectum and rarely on urinary bladder, with resultant constipation and urinary retention. Herein, we present a one year old female child who presented in Emergency Department with acute urinary retention due to urinary bladder displacement by type IV SCT.
