Mechanical Properties Optimization of Soil-Cement Kiln Dust Mixture Using Extreme Vertex Design

George Uwadiegwu Alaneme et al.

Summary: This study investigated the utilization of cement kiln dust (CKD) to enhance the mechanical performance of black expansive clayey material. A flexible extreme vertex design approach was used for the experimental design and modeling, and the results showed that CKD could be used to ameliorate low trafficked roads and reduce the cost of waste residue disposal.

optimisation of strength development of bentonite and palm bunch ash concrete using fuzzy logic

George Uwadiegwu Alaneme et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the modelling of green-concrete's mechanical properties using fuzzy logic and partial replacement of cementitious portion with PBA/BN. The evaluation of elemental oxides and strength responses shows improved performance in concrete with these admixtures. The fuzzy logic model outperforms in predicting setting time and mechanical properties of PBA/BN-concrete.

Optimization of California bearing ratio of tropical black clay soil treated with cement kiln dust and metakaolin blend

Imoh Christopher Attah et al.

Summary: The study optimized the California bearing ratio (CBR) values of expansive soil treated with cement kiln dust (CKD) and metakaolin (MTK) using the Scheffe optimization method, achieving maximum CBR values and developing CBR models. The statistical analysis confirmed the adequacy of the mathematical models, and SEM and EDX techniques were used to explore morphological and composition variations between natural and optimized soil blends. The observed alterations in soil texture were attributed to the formation of cementitious compounds during the pozzolanic reaction.

Experimental investigation of Bambara nut shell ash in the production of concrete and mortar

George Uwadiegwu Alaneme et al.

Summary: This research investigated the characterization and use of Bambara nut shell ash in concrete production, with results showing satisfactory performance at 5% replacement but decreased performance in compressive strength, concrete density, and Poisson ratio as replacement ratio increased to 40%.

Failure Analysis of a Partially Collapsed Building using Analytical Hierarchical Process

George U. Alaneme et al.

Summary: Building failure can result in collapse if not properly addressed, leading to loss of properties and lives. A case study on a partially collapsed building highlighted inadequate supervision and under-reinforcement during construction, emphasizing the importance of proper quality control and supervision in framed-structures construction to prevent failures.
