Gap between words and actions: Empirical study on consistency of residents supporting renewable energy development in China

Xingming Fang et al.

Summary: This study empirically explores the factors influencing the consistency between the willingness and behavior of Chinese residents in supporting renewable energy development. It finds that subjective factors have the most significant influence, with rural residents being more influenced by income, education, and energy supply satisfaction, while urban residents are more affected by environmental concern and carbon emission knowledge. These findings have important policy implications for guiding residents willing to support renewable energy to take real actions in their life.

Interested, indifferent or active information avoiders of carbon labels: Cognitive dissonance and ascription of responsibility as motivating factors

Anna Kristina Edenbrandt et al.

Summary: The study found that even info-decliners reduced their emissions after being provided with carbon emissions information, indicating active information avoidance behavior. Results also show that climate-related cognitive dissonance and responsibility feelings can influence behavior changes following climate information and increase choice task uncertainty.

The effect of indirect household energy consumption on PM 2.5 emission in China: An analysis based on CLA method

Ming Zhang et al.

Summary: This study quantifies the indirect effects of urban and rural residents' lifestyles on energy usage and PM 2.5 emissions in China between 2005-2015. It finds that PM 2.5 emissions from energy consumption vary significantly by region, with North, Northeast, and Northwest China having higher emissions per household unit. Residential, clothing, and transportation activities are the most energy-intensive and PM 2.5-intensive among all indirect energy consumption activities. The research provides accurate data for policy-making on energy saving and environmental protection, highlighting the key sectors of household energy consumption causing high PM 2.5 emissions in specific regions.
