Exergetic and exergoeconomic analyzes of compressed natural gas as an alternative fuel for a diesel engine

Cenk Kaya et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in a diesel engine compared to diesel fuel through exergetic and exergoeconomic analyses. The results show that diesel fuel performs better than CNG fuels except at full load. CNG20 shows favorable exergetic results at full load, but CNG fuels need improvement in performance under low load conditions.

NOX based comparative analysis of a CI engine fueled with water in diesel emulsion

Fatih Okumus et al.

Summary: The use of water-diesel-emulsified fuel (WDEF) is an effective method for reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions without engine modification. Experimental results show that using emulsified fuel slightly reduces brake power but effectively reduces NOx emissions. Through theoretical study, 10% emulsified fuel has been determined as the optimum fuel blend.

Wastes to energy: Improving the poor properties of waste tire pyrolysis oil with waste cooking oil methyl ester and waste fusel alcohol-A detailed assessment on the combustion, emission, and performance characteristics of a CI engine

Umit Agbulut et al.

Summary: This study shows that the addition of waste biodiesel and fusel oil can improve the performance characteristics of waste tire pyrolysis oil diesel fuel blends, including increasing brake thermal efficiency, reducing brake specific fuel consumption, and lowering carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emissions. Waste tire pyrolysis oil-diesel fuel blends can also be an effective tool for waste management and an alternative to fossil fuels.

Optimization of the combustion chamber geometry and injection parameters on a light-duty diesel engine for emission minimization using multi-objective genetic algorithm

Ramazan Sener et al.

Summary: This study utilized computational fluid dynamics to optimize the combustion efficiency and reduce emissions of a compression ignition engine through shape optimization. Parameters such as piston bowl geometry and injection parameters were optimized using a multi-objective genetic algorithm to enhance fuel efficiency and decrease NOX and soot emissions. The optimized design showed improved in-cylinder air utilization, rapid mixing-controlled combustion, and significantly lower emissions compared to the baseline design.

A novel approach to study the effect of motor silk-added pyrolysis tire oil on performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine

Suleyman Simsek et al.

Summary: The experimental study evaluated the usability of pyrolyzed tire oil supplemented with motor silk as an alternative fuel for diesel engines. The results showed that adding 30% PRO into euro diesel increases exhaust emissions and brake specific fuel consumption, but the addition of motor silk can reduce BSFC values by about 9%. Overall, the use of motor silk increases brake thermal efficiency and decreases BSFC values.

Ageing properties of a polyoxymethylene copolymer exposed to (bio) diesel and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) in demanding high temperature conditions

Xin-Feng Wei et al.

Summary: The study found that the aging degree of polyoxymethylene copolymer was highest when exposed to non-polar fuels under high-temperature conditions, with surface powdering observed in samples aged in fuel mixtures. The negative effects from a combination of plasticization, swelling, oxidation, and surface cracks dominated the changes in mechanical properties, leading to reduced stiffness, strength, and extensibility.

Lei Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, waste tire pyrolysis residue (WTPR) was used to prepare a water slurry, with the addition of dispersants to improve its performance. The adsorption of dispersants changed the surface properties of WTPR, with NP40 showing greater viscosity-reducing and stabilizing abilities. Additionally, all samples exhibited shear-thinning characteristics, with NP40 WTPRWS having the smallest yield stress.
