Mechanical properties of whole-body soft human tissues: a review

Gurpreet Singh et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties of soft tissues are crucial for studying human injuries and mitigation strategies. However, limited knowledge on the majority of human tissues hinders research in various applications. This study aims to address these challenges by reviewing literature on the mechanical properties of whole-body soft tissues and introducing non-linear biomechanical models. The gaps identified will aid future biomechanical studies on soft tissue characterization and accurate medical model development.

Cationic, anionic and neutral polysaccharides for skin tissue engineering and wound healing applications

Hamed Nosrati et al.

Summary: The limitations of current approaches for wound healing have led to the development of more efficient alternative approaches, such as polysaccharide-based scaffolds. These scaffolds have distinctive properties that make them ideal for wound healing applications, including biocompatibility, biodegradability, high water retention capacity, and nontoxicity.

Skin regeneration is accelerated by a lower dose of multipotent mesenchymal stromal/stem cells-a paradigm change

Gertraud Eylert et al.

Summary: This study suggests that for full-thickness burn excised wound regeneration, the optimal cell dosage range is the low dose range of 200 to 40,000 cells/cm(2), rather than the traditional belief that more cells lead to better healing outcomes.

Nanocomposite scaffolds for accelerating chronic wound healing by enhancing angiogenesis

Hamed Nosrati et al.

Summary: The skin serves as the body's primary barrier against external pathogens and maintaining homeostasis. Damage to the skin can have significant impacts on health and quality of life. Tissue engineering aims to enhance tissue regeneration, with improving angiogenesis being one of the most effective treatments for skin tissue regeneration.

Development of novel anisotropic skin simulants

Shubham Makode et al.

Summary: The study developed anisotropic skin simulants using a soft composite-based framework, embedding stiffer polymeric fibers in a softer polymeric matrix. Mechanical tests were conducted to estimate stress-stretch responses and compare them with natural skin properties.
