Individual differences in visuospatial working memory capacity influence the modality effect

Kevin Greenberg et al.

Summary: The cognitive theory of multimedia learning suggests that dual-modality learning is more effective than single modality learning, known as the modality effect. Individual differences in visuospatial working memory play a mediating role in this process. Learners with low visuospatial working memory perform better in retention in dual modality, while no differences were found for high visuospatial working memory learners in retention between single- and dual-modality conditions.
