Veeshan Rayamajhee et al.

Summary: Research demonstrates the important role of social capital in understanding voluntary collective action, especially in post-disaster reconstruction. The Ostroms and the contestable nature of goods: beyond taxonomies and toward institutional polycentricity

Veeshan Rayamajhee et al.

Summary: This paper argues that Samuelsonian taxonomy of goods cannot serve as a reliable guide for public policy, and that the nature of goods is contestable and dynamic, dependent on institutions. It explores four mechanisms and contexts that make the nature of goods debatable and malleable, emphasizing that goods are fluid, heterogeneous, and malleable concepts.
