Haze pollution and corruption: A perspective of mediating and moderating roles

Yajie Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between government corruption, economic development, foreign direct investment, and haze pollution in 139 countries. The results show that less corrupt government agencies can help reduce local haze pollution, economic development plays a mediating role in the connection between corruption and PM2.5 pollution, and foreign direct investment influences how sensitive haze pollution is to government corruption levels.

Vertical fiscal imbalance and local fiscal indiscipline: Empirical evidence from China

Junxue Jia et al.

Summary: This study finds that in a partial fiscal decentralization setting, higher vertical fiscal imbalances lead to a reduction in tax collection effort by local governments, but do not affect the collection of extra-budgetary revenues. These results shed light on the working mechanism of VFI and provide significant implications for improving the design of fiscal decentralization policies.

Does local government competition aggravate haze pollution? A new perspective of factor market distortion

Jinning Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that regional haze pollution in China has significant spatial correlation, with local government competition having a positive impact on haze pollution. The distortion of the local factor market not only directly leads to an increase in haze pollution, but also further intensifies it, with an intermediary role of about 7.04%.

The spatial spillover effect and nonlinear relationship analysis between environmental decentralization, government corruption and air pollution: Evidence from China

Yu Hao et al.

Summary: The massive development of the Chinese economy is hindered by the deteriorating air pollution problem. Environmental decentralization has a significant inhibitory effect on air pollution, but this effect is weakened by the problem of local government corruption. The corruption problem, both locally and in neighboring provinces, significantly deteriorates air quality.

Does the development of the internet contribute to air pollution control in China? Mechanism discussion and empirical test

Xiaodong Yang et al.

Summary: The integration of internet and haze governance shows broad prospects and potential in environmental management, improving early warning capability and public participation. The analysis of internet development on China's haze pollution reveals an inverted U curve relationship and significant heterogeneity between direct and indirect spillover effects, with internet development mainly affecting haze pollution through technological innovation and environmental governance efficiency.
