Examining the effects of legalizing marijuana in Colorado and Washington on clearance rates: a quasi-experimental design

Cody Jorgensen et al.

Summary: This study replicates the findings of Makin et al. (2019) on the association between marijuana legalization and clearance rates for crimes using the synthetic control method and fixed-effects models. The research reveals that marijuana legalization does not significantly increase clearance rates for crimes. It also highlights the utility of the synthetic control method in crime policy analysis and refutes the argument that the police could do better without being preoccupied with marijuana users.
