Local markets and price premiums - The case of the establishment of the Stockholm fish auction

Summary: The promotion of locally produced food has been a growing trend, but the establishment of a local fish auction in Stockholm, Sweden did not result in a price premium. Instead, it made the market more integrated and caused non-auction buyers to pay higher prices to fishers after the establishment of the auction.

The invisible (woman) entrepreneur? Shifting the discourse from fisheries diversification to entrepreneurship

Summary: This research explores how entrepreneurship enables a renegotiation of gender relations within families and how it develops over the lifecourse through in-depth narrative interviews with women in fishing families in England and Wales. It found that women's fisheries entrepreneurship can challenge traditional gender relations and that women negotiate their entrepreneurship with other gendered roles, such as motherhood, over the lifecourse. Shifting the discourse from fisheries diversification to entrepreneurship can lead to a more serious consideration of women as fisheries workers in research and policy.

Small firms in the contemporary service-oriented economy are heavily dependent on authorities and engage with harbour visitors, shaping their social relations and development as sustainable entrepreneurs and hosts.
