Metabolic reprogramming in macrophage responses

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: Macrophages are key regulators of tissue homeostasis, involved in tissue development, repair, and defense against pathogens. TAMs play a crucial role in the tumor microenvironment, impacting tumor initiation, growth, invasion, and metastasis. The metabolic characteristics of macrophages influence their phenotype and function, with pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages relying on glycolysis and anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages more dependent on mitochondrial OXPHOS.

Exposure to traffic-related air pollution and changes in exhaled nitric oxide and DNA methylation in arginase and nitric oxide synthase in children with asthma

N. Ji et al.

Summary: Exposure to traffic-related air pollution was associated with increased levels of airway inflammation and decreased levels of DNA methylation in the promoter regions of the NOS3 gene in children with asthma. The strongest associations were found between FeNO and BC at lag 0-6 h, as well as between methylation at positions 1 and 2 in NOS3 and BC at lag 13-24 h and lag 0-24 h, respectively. Associations weakened at longer lag periods.
