Effects of Lockdown due to the COVID-19 Pandemic on Air Quality at Latin America's Largest Open-pit Coal Mine

Heli A. Arregoces et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown on PM concentrations in different zones of the Cerrejon mine in Colombia. It found that while PM10 concentrations increased in the North and South Zones during the lockdown, they decreased in the Central Zone. Additionally, PM2.5 levels in the South Zone rose significantly, and higher AOD values were observed in the Central and South Zones during the lockdown period.
