This paper analyzes restaurant closure patterns during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using establishment-level data from Yelp and SafeGraph, I describe restaurant and location characteristics related to the closure decisions. Lower-rated restaurants and restaurants located closer to the city center were more likely to close in 2020. (C) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
