More Than Meets the Eye: The Role of Immigration Background for Social Identity Effects

Summary: The number of immigrants worldwide has been increasing rapidly, posing challenges for organizations and societies, such as cultural and language barriers. Employment is a key challenge for immigrants. This study found that (in)congruence in terms of immigration background between employees and customers is linked to customer complaints, with both or neither migrants being associated with fewer complaints. Results highlight the impact of unfair customer complaints on organizations, affecting both customers and employees.
