Esports Sponsorship: An Empirical Examination of Esports Consumers' Perceptions of Non-Endemic Sponsors

Summary: Traditional sport organizations and their sponsors are starting to accept esports, but the effectiveness of non-endemic sponsorships in esports is still uncertain. Esports consumers are hostile to organizations they perceive as exploiting them, including non-endemic companies looking to capitalize on the youth- and tech-centric esports industry. This study evaluates esports consumers' perceptions of non-endemic sponsorships and finds that non-endemic sponsors can benefit from enhanced attitudes, perceived goodwill, and product purchase intentions through esports team sponsorships.
