Task-related thought and metacognitive ability in mind wandering reports: an exploratory study

Toshikazu Kawagoe et al.

Summary: Recent research has focused on mind wandering (MW) and its diverse content, including thoughts ranging from the future to the past, as well as from real to imaginary worlds. This exploratory study attempts to fill the research gap by examining MW content, finding task-related thoughts and the possible contribution of metacognitive ability to MW. The occurrence of task-related thoughts and metacognitive ability should be considered when evaluating mind wandering.
