Innovation in Isolation? COVID-19 Lockdown Stringency and Culture-Innovation Relationships

Summary: This study analyzed cultural dimensions and innovation index data from 84 countries, finding that power distance was negatively correlated with innovation, while individualism was positively correlated with it. Countries with collectivist and high power distance tendencies showed lower innovation, regardless of government stringency in response to COVID-19, while individualistic and low power distance countries showed higher innovation with less severe government responses.
