Permeation of Silver Sulfadiazine Into TEMPO-Oxidized Bacterial Cellulose as an Antibacterial Agent

Shahia Khattak et al.

Summary: Surface oxidation of bacterial cellulose was carried out using the TEMPO-mediated oxidation mechanism, followed by impregnation with silver sulfadiazine to create nanocomposite membranes. Analysis using FTIR and XRD determined the presence of functional groups and crystallinity, while FESEM analysis showed the impregnation of nanoparticles and increased antibacterial activity with higher TOBC and AgSD content. This method retains and enhances the reactivity of BC, making it a promising option for biomedical applications such as wound dressing and tissue engineering.
