Type I interferons affect the metabolic fitness of CD8+ T cells from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus

Norzawani Buang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that high expression of type I interferon in SLE patients affects mitochondrial function and cell metabolism in CD8(+) T cells, leading to cell death. Furthermore, these abnormalities can be corrected by NAD+ supplementation.

Altered expression of genes controlling metabolism characterizes the tissue response to immune injury in lupus

Kathryn M. Kingsmore et al.

Summary: The study revealed common metabolic changes and alterations in tissue cell transcripts in different lupus-affected tissues, suggesting that metabolic dysfunction is a common, reversible change reflecting damage downstream of immunologic processes.
