Photocatalytic removal of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid from aqueous solution using tungsten oxide doped zinc oxide nanoparticles immobilised on glass beads

Yahya Zandsalimi et al.

Summary: Groundwater is the primary source of water for human consumption in many parts of the world, but it is susceptible to contamination by various wastes. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using tungsten-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles for the photocatalytic removal of 2,4-D pesticide. The doped nanoparticles have a smaller band gap energy, which enhances the pesticide removal efficiency. In addition, increasing light intensity, contact time, and nanoparticle concentration all lead to higher removal efficiency.

Utilization of a Newly Developed Nanomaterial Based on Loading of Biochar with Hematite for the Removal of Cadmium Ions from Aqueous Media

Tunzeel Iqbal et al.

Summary: In this study, an adsorption process utilizing a novel hematite-based nanomaterial loaded onto biochar was used for the remediation of toxic cadmium ions from aqueous media. Experimental results showed that the hematite-loaded Saccharum munja biochar and Saccharum munja biochar were more effective in Cd(II) removal compared to raw Saccharum munja. The thermodynamic studies indicated the adsorption process was feasible, spontaneous, and endothermic, with physiosorption being the predominant mechanism.

Surface defect engineering of metal oxides photocatalyst for energy application and water treatment

Pankaj Raizada et al.

Summary: Despite the excellent characteristics of metal oxides in photocatalysis, they often suffer from charge carrier recombination and limited visible response, leading to reduced photocatalytic output. This study provides a comprehensive overview of recent developments in classifying metal oxide defects based on host crystal lattice dimensions, focusing on surface modifications through various types of defects and their impacts on photocatalytic performance. By modifying the morphology and electronic structure of metal oxide photocatalysts through defect engineering, their activity can be significantly improved for applications such as H-2 evolution, CO2 reduction, pollutant degradation, and bacterial disinfection.

Summary: The research investigated the photocatalytic degradation of pesticide chlorpyrifos using mZnO/TiO2-Fe3O4 nanocomposite, with optimized parameters achieving a degradation performance of over 94%. The results suggest that the nanocomposite is a promising alternative for chlorpyrifos degradation in aqueous solution, attributed to effective electron-hole pair separation via a Z-scheme mechanism.
