Boosting the Electrocatalysis of MXenes by Plasmon-Induced Thermalization and Hot-Electron Injection

Xianhong Wu et al.

Summary: An efficient strategy is proposed to enhance the electrochemical activity of MXenes for electrocatalysis by utilizing their plasmonic response to electromagnetic waves, resulting in a significant thermoplasmonic effect that lowers the energy requirements and activation energy of the hydrogen evolution reaction. This approach also facilitates interfacial charge transfer and boosts the HER activity of various types of MXenes with improved kinetics and Faradaic efficiency across a wide pH range.

Significant solar energy absorption of MXene Ti3C2Tx nanofluids via localized surface plasmon resonance

Debing Wang et al.

Summary: Efficiency is crucial in solar energy utilization, with direct absorption solar energy collectors (DASCs) being a promising solution. The study synthesized hyperstable Ti3C2Tx-H2O nanofluids as working fluids for DASCs and found that thin-layer Ti3C2Tx nanofluids showed higher conversion efficiency due to stronger localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect. Experimental and numerical results suggest that Ti3C2Tx-H2O nanofluids have great potential in solar energy harvesting.

Visible Light Driven Hot-Electron Injection by Pd Nanoparticles: Fast Response in Metal-Semiconductor Photodetection

Liang Chen et al.

Summary: Hot-electron injection induced by plasmon decay enables ultrafast electron transfer in metallic nanoparticles, with palladium nanoparticles showing promising potential for high-speed optoelectronics due to their higher density of states next to the Fermi level. Confocal Kelvin probe force microscopy was used to investigate the optical properties of Pd NPs and plasmon induced hot-electron injection, which was found to initiate dense hot-electron transfer in the visible range. The result confirms the energetic Pd hot electrons in the visible range for photoelectric applications.
