Boosting the Iodine Adsorption and Radioresistance of Th-UiO-66 MOFs via Aromatic Substitution

Zi-Jian Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the electron-donating amino group has a positive impact on the adsorption of iodine in both solution and vapor states, with the di-substituted Th-UiO-66-(NH2)2 showing excellent removal rate and uptake capacity for iodine. Additionally, the radiolytic stability of MOFs was investigated, leading to the discovery of Th-UiO-66-NH2 as one of the most radioresistant MOFs reported to date.

The Impact of Structural Defects on Iodine Adsorption in UiO-66

John Maddock et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a defective form of UiO-66 (UiO-66-FA) and confirmed the presence of missing cluster moieties using confocal fluorescence microscopy and gas sorption measurements. The uptake of I-2 vapor in UiO-66-FA was measured to be 2.25 g g(-1), almost twice that of the pristine UiO-66. This research will inspire the design of new efficient I-2 stores based on MOFs incorporating structural defects.
