Wafer-Scale Lateral Self-Assembly of Mosaic Ti3C2Tx MXene Monolayer Films

Mehrnaz Mojtabavi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a lateral self-assembly method for wafer-scale deposition of a mosaic-type 2D MXene flake monolayer that spontaneously orders at the interface between two immiscible solvents. ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulations elucidate the interactions of a MXene flake with the solvents and its stability at the liquid/liquid interface, the prerequisite for MXene flakes self-assembly at the interface. Multiscale characterization of the resulting films reveals the mosaic structure and sheds light on the electronic properties of the films, which exhibit good electrical conductivity over cm-scale areas.

The Broad Chromatic Range of Two-Dimensional Transition Metal Carbides

Kathleen Maleski et al.

Summary: Transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes) are a relatively new class of 2D materials with diverse optical properties, showing changes in carrier concentration and chemical composition. The study introduces the optical properties of nine carbide MXenes, which vary systematically in composition and atomic structure, and suggests the potential for this class of optoelectronic building blocks.

Can Anions Be Inserted into MXene?

Netanel Shpigel et al.

Summary: Despite significant progress in the development of Ti3C2Tx (MXene) electrodes for high-power batteries and supercapacitors, the role of anions in electrochemical energy storage and their ability to intercalate between MXene sheets remains unclear. It has been demonstrated that the insertion of anionic species into MXene within the potential range of interest for capacitive energy storage is unlikely, possibly due to the strong negative charge on Ti3C2Tx sheets terminated by functional groups.
