Abundant fungal and rare bacterial taxa jointly reveal soil nutrient cycling and multifunctionality in uneven-aged mixed plantations

Haidong Xu et al.

Summary: Uneven-aged mixed plantations showed significant improvements in soil C, N, P cycling, and SMF indices compared to monoculture plantations. Soil fungal diversity and biomass were more sensitive to stand structure changes over a short period, while fungal and bacterial communities play different roles in maintaining nutrient cycling and SMF. Abundant fungal taxa, such as Mucoromycota and Mortierellomycota, were found to be major drivers of SMF.

Introduction of broadleaf species into monospecific Cunninghamia lanceolata plantations changed the soil Acidobacteria subgroups composition and nitrogen-cycling gene abundances

Yuting Zhang et al.

Summary: Introducing Phoebe bournei into Cunninghamia lanceolata plantations improved soil nutrients and influenced the soil bacterial community, enhancing nitrogen fixation and dissimilatory nitrate reduction potential. Acidobacterial subgroups displayed contrasting behavior to the introduction of P. bournei and could serve as indicators of soil nutrient changes.

Soil carbon and nutrient stocks under Scots pine plantations in comparison to European beech forests: a paired-plot study across forests with different management history and precipitation regimes

Marco Diers et al.

Summary: Tree species identity can significantly influence the stocks of SOC and macronutrients, which may be unrelated to productivity but closely linked to species-specific forest management histories. In addition, forest continuity is an important factor determining the SOC and nutrient pools of these stands. Neither precipitation nor temperature influenced the SOC pool, whereas tree species was a key driver.
