Reappraisal of hydrologic alterations in the Roanoke River basin using extended data and improved RVA method

R. K. Singh et al.

Summary: The study examined hydrologic regime changes in the Roanoke River basin under three scenarios and found deficiencies in the traditional RVA in evaluating the degree of hydrologic alterations. The combination of improved RVA and HMA can better design strategies to enhance ecosystem services provided by managed river systems.

Hydrologic alteration and potential ecosystemic implications under a changing climate in the Chitral River, Hindukush region, Pakistan

M. Usman et al.

Summary: The study investigates the hydrologic regime changes in the Chitral River of the Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalayan region, Pakistan, due to climate change. Using statistical methods and the HBV model, it is predicted that hydrologic alterations could impact aquatic habitat in the area, with positive changes projected for most flow parameters. This research can aid in effective water resources and aquatic ecosystem management in the HKH region.

A framework for evaluating the impacts of reservoirs on seasonal ecohydrological conditions based on new eco-flows

Xiaoming Guo et al.

Summary: The study redefined ecological flow metrics based on discharge hydrographs instead of flow duration curves and proposed a risk evaluation method. Analysis of data from the Yellow River from 1956 to 2015 revealed that winter is classified as a high-risk season and should be given more attention in the future.

Adapting reservoir operation rules to hydrological drought state and environmental flow requirements

Farshid Zolfagharpour et al.

Summary: This study focuses on how to consider hydrological drought state and e-flow in reservoir operation to improve system reliability and protect wetland ecosystems. The results show that incorporating hydrological drought state can enhance the overall system reliability.
