Random Regression Analysis of Calving Interval of Japanese Black Cows

Summary: Genetic parameters for the calving interval of Japanese Black cows were estimated using a random regression model and a repeatability model. The estimated heritability was low, with a high genetic correlation between ages, and a strong correlation in breeding values between the two models. Overall, results support the validity of using a repeatability model for evaluating breeding values in Japanese Black cows.

Estimation of the marbling development pattern in Japanese Black cattle by using serial ultrasound measurement data

Summary: This study aimed to develop mathematical equations for describing marbling changes in Japanese Black steers using longitudinal measurements. The findings showed the average predicted mature beef marbling score and maturation rate, indicating potential for genetic improvement.Results suggest that ultrasound and model building can be useful tools in selecting candidate bulls with high marbling in the early fattening period.
