The Study of Chicken Manure and Steel Slag Amelioration to Mitigate Greenhouse Gas Emission in Rice Cultivation

Muhammad Iqbal Fauzan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the best combination of chicken manure (CM) and steel slag (SS) to mitigate CH4, N2O, and CO2 emissions, determine the best CM:SS mixture to reduce CH4 and N2O, and evaluate dry biomass and grain yield. CM:SS (1:2.5) was found to be the most effective treatment for reducing GHG emissions, while CM:SS (1:1.5) was the best ameliorant for CH4 and N2O mitigation. None of the CM and SS combinations significantly increased dry biomass and grain yield.

Early mid-season drainage can mitigate greenhouse gas emission from organic rice farming with green manure application

Yo Toma et al.

Summary: Organic rice farming is considered safe and environmentally friendly, but the use of fresh organic matter as fertilizer can lead to increased methane emissions. This study evaluated methane and net greenhouse gas emissions in long-term organic rice paddy fields, and looked at the effects of green manure and mid-season drainage on rice grain yield. Early incorporation of green manure did not increase CO2 or decrease CH4 emissions, while early mid-season drainage reduced CH4 emissions and contributed to soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas reduction.

Exploring long-term effects of biochar on mitigating methane emissions from paddy soil: a review

Qiong Nan et al.

Summary: This review explores the mechanisms and controversies surrounding the long-term effects of biochar on methane mitigation in paddy soil. It proposes potential mechanisms of biochar in long-term methane emission response and highlights the need for further research in order to achieve carbon neutrality goals.
