Predicting the propensity to soot of hydrocarbons and oxygenated molecules by means of structural group contribution factors derived from the processing of unified sooting indexes

Romain Lemaire et al.

Summary: To control particulate emissions during combustion processes, understanding soot formation mechanisms and finding low-sooting additives are necessary. Various sooting indexes have been developed and a group increment model has been built to characterize the behavior of hydrocarbons. Factors such as the number of carbon atoms, unsaturation, and presence of oxygen groups play crucial roles in soot formation.

Density, Speed of Sound, Isentropic Compressibility, and Refractive Index of Ternary Mixtures of Oxygenated Additives and Hydrocarbons (Dibutyl Ether+1-Butanol + Toluene or Cyclohexane) in Fuels and Biofuels: Experimental Data and PC-SAFT Equation-of-State Modeling

Ilham Abala et al.

Summary: This work presents measured data of density, speed of sound, and refractive index for binary and ternary mixtures containing DBE, 1-butanol, toluene, and cyclohexane at 298.15 K and 0.1 MPa. Derivative properties such as excess volume, deviation in speed of sound, isentropic compressibility, and deviation in refractive index were generated from the experimental data and fitted using the Redlich-Kister equation. The intermolecular interactions between each mixture were also discussed.

Further engineering of R. toruloides for the production of terpenes from lignocellulosic biomass

James Kirby et al.

Summary: This study optimized the production of monoterpene 1,8-cineole and sesquiterpene alpha-bisabolene in R. toruloides. Increasing the copy number of bisabolene synthase (BIS) and enhancing the expression of GPP synthase improved the production of alpha-bisabolene and 1,8-cineole, respectively, from lignocellulosic hydrolysate. Targeted overexpression of mevalonate pathway genes further increased the terpene production, bringing R. toruloides closer to industrial relevance.
