Biological soil improvement using new environmental bacteria isolated from northern Iran

Maysam Bahmani et al.

Summary: This study introduced new indigenous bacteria extracted from soil samples in Iran to improve dune sand using microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) as an environmental engineering method. The performance of the selected bacteria was evaluated through various tests, and Bacillus sp. UTMC 2623 showed promising results in enhancing the geotechnical behavior of the sand.

Geotechnical properties of lime-geogrid improved clayey subgrade under various moisture conditions

Soheil Jahandari et al.

Summary: The research found that the combined application of lime and geogrid to clayey subgrade significantly enhanced its ductility and geotechnical characteristics, but excessive water pressure caused separation between geogrid layers and subgrade, leading to reduced uniformity and consistency. Moreover, controlling moisture to optimal levels can maximize the performance of subgrade, while excess moisture beyond optimal levels resulted in more voids, decreasing geotechnical properties.

Effects of electrokinetic phenomena on the load-bearing capacity of different steel and concrete piles: a small-scale experimental study

Fatemeh Sadeghian et al.

Summary: The study found that using the electrokinetic method can effectively increase the bearing capacity of not only metallic piles, but also concrete piles. Reinforced cement concrete piles (RCCP) showed a significant increase in bearing capacity after the addition of lime and undergoing electrokinetic treatment for a certain period of time.

Fresh, Mechanical, and Durability Properties of Self-Compacting Mortar Incorporating Alumina Nanoparticles and Rice Husk Ash

Bahareh Mehdizadeh et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the performance of self-compacting mortars incorporating alumina nanoparticles and rice husk ash, finding that they have minimal effect on workability and water absorption rate, but significantly improve compressive strength, flexural strength, reduce chloride permeability, and enhance electrical resistivity. The combination of 30% RHA and 3% NA as cement replacement provides the best mechanical and durability performance.

Pooria Ghadir et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of using volcanic ash-based geopolymer as an alternative soil stabilizer to cement by comparing their shear strength behavior and life cycle assessment. The results showed that increasing binder content changes the structure of clayey soil through aggregation, thus improving the shear resistance.

Effect of pumice powder and nano-clay on the strength and permeability of fiber-reinforced pervious concrete incorporating recycled concrete aggregate

Peyman Mehrabi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of recycled concrete aggregate and pozzolanic additives as partial replacements in pervious concrete. The results showed that using RCA decreased the density and strength of concrete, while pumice and nano-clay additives had positive effects on concrete properties. Different types of fibers also affected the performance of concrete, with steel fiber performing the best.
