FourPhonon: An extension module to ShengBTE for computing four-phonon scattering rates and thermal conductivity

Zherui Han et al.

Summary: Four Phonon is a computational package for calculating four-phonon scattering rates in crystals, built within the ShengBTE framework. It features an adaptive energy broadening scheme and a separate Python script for calculating fourth-order interatomic force constants. The program design is straightforward, and example calculations are demonstrated in Si, BAs, and LiCoO2.

dynasor-A Tool for Extracting Dynamical Structure Factors and Current Correlation Functions from Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Erik Fransson et al.

Summary: The perturbative treatments of lattice dynamics are limited for strongly anharmonic systems, metastable crystal structures, and liquids. Molecular dynamics simulations using correlation functions can provide access to the full dynamics of these systems, including dynamical structure factors that bridge the gap to experiment. The dynasor package is a flexible and efficient tool that simplifies the analysis of correlation functions, handling input from major MD packages and allowing for easy extension to support additional codes.

Order-Disorder Transition in Inorganic Clathrates Controls Electrical Transport Properties

Joakim Brorsson et al.

Summary: By combining first-principles calculations, atomistic simulations, and experimental measurements, the connection between chemical ordering and physical properties in inorganic clathrates has been revealed. An order-disorder transition in the quaternary clathrate series was discovered, leading to discontinuity in heat capacity and explaining the unusual temperature dependence of Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity. It is suggested that this phenomenon may not be limited to specific materials but could be observed in a wide range of inorganic clathrates and materials with chemical ordering on sublattices.

High-temperature phonon transport properties of SnSe from machine-learning interatomic potential

Huan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, molecular dynamics simulations with machine learning interatomic potential were used to explore the thermal transport properties of SnSe at different temperatures. The research identified the origins of temperature-dependent thermal conductivity anisotropy and the roles of four-phonon scatterings, providing insights into the thermal characteristics of SnSe and related nanostructures.

Summary: This study compares three spectral TC methods based on velocity decomposition and evaluates their performance on different materials, revealing limitations at optical phonon frequencies. It is found that HNEMA and SHC methods converge faster than GKMA, with SHC being the most computationally efficient.
