Serum microRNA-185 Levels and Myocardial Injury in Patients with Acute ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction

Jeong Rang Park et al.

Summary: The changes in miR-185 levels in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are related to myocardial healing and remodeling. MiR-185 levels at discharge are correlated with troponin-I, CK-MB, and CK-MB area under the curve levels. High miR-185 levels are associated with high wall motion score index, low ejection fraction, and high B-type natriuretic peptide level at one month after STEMI.

Circulating miRNAs Related to Long-term Adverse Cardiovascular Events in STEMI Patients: A Nested Case-Control Study

Xinying Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that circulating miR-26a-5p, miR-21-5p, and miR-191-5p levels were lower in patients who experienced major adverse cardiovascular events after acute myocardial infarction compared to those who did not. Multivariate conditional logistic regression analysis showed that these miRNAs were significantly inversely associated with incident primary composite outcomes. Combining these miRNAs with B-type natriuretic peptide improved risk scores recommended in the current guidelines.

RNA-seq identifies circulating miRNAs as potential biomarkers for plaque rupture in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction

Jiannan Li et al.

Summary: The study identified that miR-744-3p, miR-324-3p, and miR-330-3p were significantly upregulated in patients with plaque rupture (PR) compared to those with plaque erosion (PE). The combination of these three miRNAs had clinical utility in distinguishing between PR and PE, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.764 and 0.768 in training and test sets, respectively. These circulating microRNAs could serve as diagnostic markers for distinguishing plaque phenotype in ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients.

Circulating miR-21, miR-29a, and miR-126 are associated with premature death risk due to cancer and cardiovascular disease: the JACC Study

Summary: This study found that high levels of circulating miR-21 and miR-29a were significantly associated with an increased risk of total death, cancer death, and CVD death, while individuals with low levels of circulating miR-126 were more likely to experience total death. This suggests that circulating miRNAs may serve as potential biomarkers for early detection of high-risk individuals.

Summary: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a major health threat and diagnostic challenges persist, especially in cases without positive autopsy findings. In this study, specific cardio-miRNAs were investigated as potential biomarkers for SCD diagnosis. The results showed that four cardio-miRNAs were significantly up-regulated in SCD samples, suggesting their potential as independent diagnostic biomarkers, with a combination of two miRNAs aiding in discriminating detailed causes of SCD.
