A Review on Polymer Precursors of Carbon Molecular Sieve Membranes for Olefin/Paraffin Separation

Summary: CMS membranes are developed to replace or support energy-intensive cryogenic distillation for olefin/paraffin separation. Different polymer precursors lead to varying structures and performances of CMS membranes for olefin/paraffin separation. The effects of incorporating inorganic materials into polymer precursors and the pyrolysis process on the properties of CMS membranes are reviewed, along with prospects and future directions for olefin/paraffin separation using CMS membranes and aging issues.

In this study, 15 wt % YP-50F and 15 wt % GO fillers in the mixed polymer matrix demonstrated superior CO2/N-2 separation performance.
