Effects of tall fescue biochar on the adsorption and desorption of atrazine in different types of soil

Wanting Li et al.

Summary: The excessive use of atrazine in agriculture leads to serious environmental pollution. The addition of tall fescue biochar can effectively enhance the adsorption capacity of different soil types for atrazine and reduce desorption. The adsorption-desorption processes follow the pseudo second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model, with red soil showing higher adsorption capacity for atrazine compared to brown soil and black soil. Spontaneous adsorption of atrazine by the biochar-soil system is more pronounced at 35 degrees C.

Adsorption mechanisms of chlorobenzenes and trifluralin on primary polyethylene microplastics in the aquatic environment

Aleksandra Tubic et al.

Summary: The study investigates the adsorption mechanism of six priority substances on primary polyethylene microplastics in water samples from the Danube river. The Langmuir model showed that the investigated compounds will be better adsorbed on polyethylene in real river water, except for 1,3,5-TeCB which exhibited better sorption in a synthetic matrix. Compound characteristics and polymer properties were significant factors affecting the sorption process.

Comparing straw, compost, and biochar regarding their suitability as agricultural soil amendments to affect soil structure, nutrient leaching, microbial communities, and the fate of pesticides

Martin Siedt et al.

Summary: Organic amendments play a critical role in retaining nutrients and pesticides in agricultural soils, with biochar showing effectiveness in increasing soil sorption capacity. However, the overall impacts of different organic materials can vary greatly, highlighting the need for further studies to compare and optimize their use in soil management practices.

Effects of NaOH Activation on Adsorptive Removal of Herbicides by Biochars Prepared from Ground Coffee Residues

Yong-Gu Lee et al.

Summary: This study compared the adsorption of herbicides using non-activated and NaOH-activated coffee residue biochars, finding that the activated biochar had a greater surface area and pore volume, leading to more effective removal of herbicides.

Increased Sorption of Atrazine and Fipronil in the Sugarcane Trash Ash-Mixed Soils of Northern India

Shubham Yadav et al.

Summary: Crop residue ashes have a significant adsorption capacity for pesticides in soils. This study focused on the impact of sugarcane trash ash (STA) on atrazine (ATR) and fipronil (FIP) kinetics and adsorption behavior in sugarcane growing soils. Findings indicated that STA increased pesticide adsorption and decreased desorption, affecting the overall phenomenon of adsorption in the soils.
