Altered diversity and composition of gut microbiota in patients with allergic rhinitis

Mu-shi Zhou et al.

Summary: This study compared the gut microbiota composition and SCFAs levels between patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) and healthy controls, revealing significant differences. The results suggest that gut microbiota may play a crucial role in the development of AR.

Exploration of the effect of mixed probiotics on microbiota of allergic asthma mice

Juan Zhang et al.

Summary: Oral administration of mixed probiotics can alleviate allergic inflammation induced by asthma, by reducing costimulatory molecules on dendritic cells' surface and increasing mucosal gut-primed Tregs induced by mesenteric CD103+DCs. The protective effect is related to gut microbiota diversity and the Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes ratio.

Viability Status-Dependent Effect of Bifidobacterium longum ssp. longum CCM 7952 on Prevention of Allergic Inflammation in Mouse Model

Marcelina Joanna Pyclik et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that untreated Bifidobacterium strains have allergy-reducing properties, significantly suppressing airway inflammation and decreasing Th2-related cytokines and eosinophils. In contrast, heat-treated Bifidobacterium strains only reduced some inflammation markers while increasing other inflammatory cells.

Lactococcus lactis NZ9000 Prevents Asthmatic Airway Inflammation and Remodelling in Rats through the Improvement of Intestinal Barrier Function and Systemic TGF-β Production

Daniel Cervantes-Garcia et al.

Summary: The use of Lactococcus lactis NZ9000 orally diminished inflammatory responses in asthmatic rats, reduced serum allergen-specific IgE levels, prevented tissue remodelling in the lungs, and improved intestinal barrier function. Additionally, it increased Peyer's patch and goblet cell quantity in the intestine, normalized morphological alterations, and increased systemic TGF-beta production. These results suggest that L. lactis may be a potential candidate for asthma prevention.
