Evaluation of the Bioactive Compounds Found in Tomato Seed Oil and Tomato Peels Influenced by Industrial Heat Treatments

Katalin Szabo et al.

Summary: The study aims to highlight the valuable bioactive components found in tomato processing by-products, influenced by different industrial pre-treatments. Results showed that tomato seed oil has suitable characteristics to meet the standards of edible oils, but significant qualitative and quantitative differences were observed in their phenolic composition and carotenoids content.

Enhancement of resistant starch content in modified rice flour using extrusion technology

Beenish Gulzar et al.

Summary: The study aimed to modify rice flour for enhancement of resistant starch content using extrusion technology, obtaining significantly higher resistant starch content and lower predicted glycemic index in the modified rice flour. The most effective conditions for enhancing resistant starch content in the modified rice flour were found to be 30% moisture content, 140 degrees C barrel temperature, and 70 rpm screw speed.

Optimisation of the Extrusion Process through a Response Surface Methodology for Improvement of the Physical Properties and Nutritional Components of Whole Black-Grained Wheat Flour

Yuxiu Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing barrel temperature, feed moisture content, and feed rate can affect the physical properties of extrudates, but do not significantly impact the content of protein, ash, iron, zinc, copper, and manganese. Extruded and unextruded flours made from whole BGW contain higher levels of nutrients compared to those made from whole white-grained wheat.

Impact of Global Climate Change on the European Barley Market Requires Novel Multi-Method Approaches to Preserve Crop Quality and Authenticity

Stefan G. Bindereif et al.

Summary: In 2018 and 2019, Europe experienced significant drought, posing a major risk to global barley supply. A novel approach utilizing near-infrared spectra analysis, C-13 isotope enrichment, and betaine accumulation successfully differentiated between barley samples from 2018 and 2017. Through modern analysis techniques, both fraudulent labeling prevention and valuable insights into crop drought tolerance can be achieved.
