Assessing the Distribution of Air Pollution Health Risks within Cities: A Neighborhood-Scale Analysis Leveraging High-Resolution Data Sets in the Bay Area, California

Veronica A. Southerland et al.

Summary: The study found significant variation in pollution-attributable mortality rates in the Bay Area, ranging from 38 to 2 times per 100,000 people for NO2, BC, and PM2.5. Using mobile monitoring and land-use regression models produced similar estimates of air pollution health risks.

Estimation of excess mortality due to long-term exposure to PM2.5 in continental United States using a high-spatiotemporal resolution model

Alina Vodonos et al.

Summary: This study assessed the mortality burden of long-term exposure to PM2.5 among adults in the Continental United States, showing that reducing PM2.5 exposure could significantly decrease the number of deaths, especially in regions with high PM2.5 concentrations. The results indicated that spatial characteristics play a significant role in disease burden studies.
