High-throughput sequencing-based microsatellite genotyping for polyploids to resolve allele dosage uncertainty and improve analyses of genetic diversity, structure and differentiation: A case study of the hexaploid Camellia oleifera

Xiangyan Cui et al.

Summary: A new high-throughput sequencing method has been developed to accurately genotype polyploid genotypes in wild plants, improving the accuracy of population genetic analysis. The study of wild Camellia oleifera in subtropical evergreen broadleaf forests in China supports the central-marginal hypothesis of genetic diversity distribution.

Genome-wide association study (GWAS) of major QTLs for bunch and oil yield related traits in Elaeis guineensis L

B. Kalyana Babu et al.

Summary: This study conducted the first large-scale GWAS analysis on 310 African germplasm, identifying 43 significant QTLs related to oil palm yield, with several SSR loci showing strong correlation with oil to dry mesocarp. Additionally, the study found associations between leaf area and oil to dry mesocarp with candidate genes representing low temperature-induced proteins.

Pan-genome of Raphanus highlights genetic variation and introgression among domesticated, wild, and weedy radishes

Xiaohui Zhang et al.

Summary: The study presents de novo sequence assemblies for various sub-species and varieties of radishes from different regions, revealing genetic variations, gene flow, and genomic diversity. The findings shed light on the genomic evolution and provide insights for genetic improvement of radish crops.

Spatiogenetic characterization of S receptor kinase (SRK) alleles in naturalized populations of Raphanus sativus L. var. raphanistroides on Yakushima island

Kazuki Fukushima et al.

Summary: The study in naturalized radish populations on Yakushima, Japan, showed the distribution of S alleles, discovered unique new S alleles, and revealed pollen exchange among plants in close proximity. The high diversity of S alleles in naturalized populations was highlighted, as well as the challenges in PCR amplification due to sequence diversity. This research suggests that exchange of S alleles between cultivars and naturalized populations is common and the methodology developed could be applied to study S allele distribution in other self-incompatible species.
