Growth of covellite crystal onto azurite surface during sulfurization and its response to flotation behavior

Jinpeng Cai et al.

Summary: The growth of copper sulfide crystal onto azurite surfaces during sulfurization was investigated, which greatly promoted the azurite flotation. However, excess sodium sulfide led to the generation of massive colloidal copper sulfide in flotation pulp, deteriorating the flotation environment and decreasing the effective adsorption of collector onto azurite surfaces.

Effects of defects and impurities on the adsorption of H2O on smithsonite (101) surfaces: Insight from DFT-D and MD

Yuanjia Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, DFT-D calculations and MD simulations were used to investigate the adsorption of H2O on smithsonite surfaces with defects and impurities. The results showed that the adsorption on defective and impurity surfaces was weaker and less stable compared to the perfect surface. Different adsorption forms were observed on different surfaces, with dissociated adsorption on perfect surfaces, molecular adsorption on Zn-vacancy surfaces, and a mixture of molecular and dissociated adsorption on impurity surfaces.

How Do Surface Defects Change Local Wettability of the Hydrophilic ZnS Surface? Insights into Sphalerite Flotation from Density Functional Theory Calculations

Abolfazl Alizadeh Sahraei et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of surface vacancies in mineral-water interactions on ZnS surfaces, finding that the presence or absence of Zn or S atoms affects surface wettability differently. Increasing water molecules change adsorption configurations and energies, showing that a single water molecule cannot fully reflect surface circumstances at the water-surface interface.

New insights into selective-depression mechanism of novel depressant EDTMPS on magnesite and quartz surfaces: Adsorption mechanism, DFT calculations, and adsorption model

Haoran Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, EDTMPS was introduced as a chelation depressant to selectively depress magnesite in a magnesite-quartz flotation system using DDA as the collector. Results from micro-flotation tests showed that EDTMPS interfered with the interaction of DDA with magnesite, leading to the successful separation of magnesite from quartz. The study also utilized contact-angle and zeta-potential measurements, FTIR and XPS analysis, as well as DFT calculations to understand the mechanism behind the improved separation efficiency.

Adsorption of Mg2+ and K+ on the kaolinite (001) surface in aqueous system: A combined DFT and AIMD study with an experimental verification

Zhijun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the microscopic adsorption mechanism of Mg2+ and K+ on kaolinite (001) surface in aqueous system using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and ab-initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations. The dominant complexes of hydrated Mg2+ and K+ in aqueous environment were identified, with bidentate complexes of Mg2+ and monodentate complexes of K+ being their respective dominant complexes. The binding energies of all the adsorption complexes of Mg2+ were found to be higher than those of K+, indicating that Mg2+ is easier to adsorb on kaolinite surface than K+.

Molecular dynamics simulation of magnesite and dolomite in relation to flotation with cetyl phosphate

Yuan Tang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the selective separation of magnesite from associated carbonate gangue. Molecular dynamics simulations show that PCP molecules tend to exclude preadsorbed water molecules at the magnesite/solution interface, suggesting selectivity for PCP adsorption on magnesite surfaces. Experimental evidence supports the chemical and preferential adsorption of PCP, increasing the hydrophobicity and electronegativity of magnesite.

Experimental and molecular dynamics simulation study on the effect of polyacrylamide on bauxite flotation

Ziyong Chang et al.

Summary: The study showed that polyacrylamide (PAM) has a significant impact on bauxite flotation, with high concentrations reducing recovery and selectivity. PAM may hinder collector adsorption and cause unselective flocculation. Hexametaphosphate can mitigate the negative effects of PAM and improve flotation performance.

Steric hindrance effect on adsorption of xanthate on sphalerite surface: A DFT study

Ye Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of steric hindrance effect on xanthate adsorption on sphalerite surface using DFT, revealing that the spatial hindrance caused by sulfur atoms leads to steric hindrance effect. The replacement of surface zinc atoms with copper atoms was found to decrease the energy barrier caused by steric hindrance, facilitating xanthate adsorption.

An in situ ATR-FTIR study of mixed collectors BHA/DDA adsorption in ilmenite-titanaugite flotation system

Liping Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the enhanced flotation separation performance of ilmenite and titanaugite using a mixed collector BHA/DDA, finding successful separation at a specific molar ratio. Experimental results indicated that in the mixed collector system, BHA adsorbed on mineral surfaces through chemical adsorption, while DDA adsorbed through electrostatic adsorption, forming a stable complex on the ilmenite surface but an unstable one on the titanaugite surface.

DFT insights into the sulfidation mechanism of Fe-impurity smithsonite

Yuanjia Luo et al.

Summary: The presence of Fe impurities significantly altered the structure and electronic properties of smithsonite surfaces, affecting the sulfidation-flotation process. The adsorption energy of HS on Fe-bearing smithsonite surfaces was lower than on perfect surfaces, and the presence of S-OH in the sulfidation product decreased the hydrophobicity of the sulfidation film, which was not conducive to sulfidation-flotation.
