High-efficiency extraction of iron from early iron tailings via the suspension roasting-magnetic separation

Yanjun Li et al.

Summary: The high-efficiency extraction of iron from early iron tailings via the SRMS technology improved the porosity of the products and facilitated their grinding and separation. The recommended roasting conditions were temperature 600 degrees C, time 20 minutes, CO concentration 30%, and grinding fineness 55.32% passing 0.038 mm, with Fe grade in the concentrate at 67.09% and Fe recovery at 85.93%.

Exploring the role of forest biomass in abating fossil CO2 emissions in the iron and steel industry - The case of Sweden

Chinedu Maureen Nwachukwu et al.

Summary: This study examines the feasibility of using forest biomass in iron and steel production to reduce CO2 emissions, and through a spatially explicit cost optimization model, it is found that maximizing the use of biomass-based products can result in a 43% reduction in CO2 emissions. Additionally, results suggest that increasing biomass utilization through substitution targets is more effective than carbon pricing policy.

Catalytic reforming of volatiles from co-pyrolysis of lignite blended with corn straw over three iron ores: Effect of iron ore types on the product distribution, carbon-deposited iron ore reactivity and its mechanism

Hongyu Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of three natural iron ores in the catalytic reforming process of volatiles from co-pyrolysis, finding that goethite exhibited the best cracking effect on heavy components. The structure of iron ores changed after the reaction, and the carbon deposits did not completely fill in the nanocracks and voids.

Efficient iron recovery from iron tailings using advanced suspension reduction technology: A study of reaction kinetics, phase transformation, and structure evolution

Shuai Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the reduction kinetics, phase transformation, and structure evolution of iron tailings to explain the mechanism behind magnetite production using suspension roasting-magnetic separation technology. The results showed that high temperatures during the suspension reduction process improved the reduction rate of iron tailings, with the P1 model being the best kinetics model for this reduction reaction. The gradual formation of magnetite from hematite through SRMS technology was observed, shedding light on efficient and clean recycling of iron tailings.

Does biomass energy drive environmental sustainability? An SDG perspective for top five biomass consuming countries

Mehmet Akif Destek et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of biomass energy intensity and efficiency on sustainable development in the top five biomass energy-consuming countries. Results show that income level and urban sprawl have significant effects on the ecological footprint and emissions, while biomass energy consumption increases the ecological footprint but decreases emissions. Additionally, trade openness reduces both ecological footprint and CO2 emissions effectively.

Enhancing hydrocarbon production via ex-situ catalytic co-pyrolysis of biomass and high-density polyethylene: Study of synergistic effect and aromatics selectivity

Tengfei He et al.

Summary: In this study, ex-situ catalytic fast co-pyrolysis of corn stalk and high-density polyethylene over HZSM-5 catalyst was conducted to enhance the production of hydrocarbons. The addition of HDPE significantly promoted the production of CVOPs, while the presence of HZSM-5 further enhanced the production of CVOPs and hydrocarbons, especially aromatics. Specific pyrolysis temperatures were identified as preferable for desired products, with benzene, toluene, and xylenes being the predominant aromatics during the process.

Determinants of overcapacity in China?s renewable energy industry: Evidence from wind, photovoltaic, and biomass energy enterprises

Shiwei Yu et al.

Summary: This study examines the determinants of overcapacity in the non-hydropower renewable energy industries in China using data from 116 listed enterprises. The study found that overcapacity is most severe in the PV industry, followed by wind and biomass industries. Enterprise profitability, government subsidies, and market structure significantly impact overcapacity, with policy coordination and financial support potentially mitigating the issue. To reduce overcapacity, government control over subsidy standards and industry entry thresholds is recommended, with a focus on improving asset return rates and domestic market demand for PV enterprises, and exploring overseas markets for biomass enterprises. Synergy in policies for the photovoltaic industry is emphasized over quantity.
