Etiologic heterogeneity of clear-cell and papillary renal cell carcinoma in the Netherlands Cohort Study

Jeroen A. A. van de Pol et al.

Summary: The study found that there are different impacts of body mass index (BMI) and smoking on the risk of clear-cell RCC (ccRCC) and papillary RCC (pRCC), while alcohol consumption is negatively associated with the risk of both. Hypertension is positively associated with the risk of both ccRCC and pRCC. The research also indicates significant differences in BMI, BMI change, and smoking duration among current smokers in terms of ccRCC and pRCC risk.

Summary: Lenvatinib treatment initiation may lead to hypertension and fluid retention. Reduced urinary sodium excretion in the early stages of treatment could be a contributing factor to fluid retention and hypertension.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Impact of Concomitant Cardiovascular Medication on Survival of Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Patients Treated with Sunitinib or Pazopanib in the First Line

Ondrej Fiala et al.

Summary: The use of beta-blockers (BBs) was found to be associated with favorable outcomes for patients with mRCC treated with sunitinib or pazopanib in the first line, with better progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) compared to patients not using BBs.
